Getting Epson scanner files that really work was a nightmare for me. In Synaptic, the core pkg and the data pkg were wrong (did not work for me), the plugin pkg was missing. The three pkgs below made Simple-Scan work with my Epson Perfection V500 PHOTO scanner. I thought that following these bread crumbs might be useful to anyone else having trouble getting an Epson scanner to work on Linux. Your mileage may vary.
# As I followed the path below I ended up with the following directory path:
# and in that directory:
iscan-gt-x770-bundle-1.0.1.x64.deb.tar.gz #yielded the bundle deb below:
iscan-gt-x770-bundle-1.0.1.x64.deb # this yielded the three dirs below:
# These three pkgs, installed, work on Solydx9
# I would recommend that the data pkg be installed 1st.
# This is the path I took to the bundle deb.tar.gz file.
