Syslogd error message

Postby fdpg1963 » 22 Nov 2017 20:02

Hello all,

Running SolydK for about a week now on my Asus R704A laptop. Just got my first error message although the laptop keeps running fine. Appears to be something about power saving. I have installed tlp (default settings) and battery drain is normal. Has anyone an idea what this message means?

Kind regards, Folkert

That's funny stuff syslogd is telling you. But I'd prefer the output of

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep ERROR

Guess I have to wait until the message appears again... errors are gone.

folkert@asus-r704a:~$ dmesg | grep ERROR
dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Bewerking niet toegestaan
folkert@asus-r704a:~$ sudo dmesg | grep ERROR
[sudo] wachtwoord voor folkert:
folkert@asus-r704a:~$

Thanks for the quick reply, if needed I reply again.

I've searched the internet for the error messages and it seems that these can have all kind of reasons: from temporary system overload to bad hardware. If the error showed up after you changed something on your system you should investigate the changed parts. If it showed up together with heavy load you can ignore it. Otherwise just wait until it shows up again.

It showed up again today while the system was not very busy, FF57 running only after a fresh boot. Issued the dmesg command you proposed but no result. Anyway, it's not a big deal while the pc runs fine. I was just curious and it's my first "weird" error message in a Linux distro in 5 years.

I will just ignore it.

I don't know why that message appear but one thing I'm sure is...syslogd should be nonexistent on solydxk. the capability is now fully handled by init. in fact, all log system is now handled by init. the message seems bogus. the culprit might not syslogd but rather something else.
