Gtk theme preferences (gtk-theme-config) [CLOSED]

Postby zerozero » 17 Aug 2013 03:01

Satya's little tool to tweak gtk2 and gtk3 theme colours
(again a repost, kindly asked by Gene here > http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=949)
Right now, `GTK Theme Preferences` (that's the name of the tool) works with any GTK2 and GTK3 theme and lets you customize the following:
  • selected background color
  • Xfce panel, Gnome panel and Unity panel: background and text color
  • menu background and font color

this build is updated as of today

I suppose this is used on SolydX only?

Heck no....

I use it on Gnome Shell (LMDE) as well. Should work on KDE, but have not tested it... ;) Should work on any GTK theme.
With the ability to 'tweak' themes, you simply can change its look without having to search for and install whole new themes. There is an option (button) to revert the modified theme back to default so you need not worrry about having messed up a theme...

it installs clean in K (and whitout any additional dep)

Code: Select all

zerozero@home ~/Downloads $ su
Password:
home Downloads # dpkg -i gtk-theme-config_1.0.1-1_amd64.deb
Selecting previously unselected package gtk-theme-config.
(Reading database ... 215841 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking gtk-theme-config (from gtk-theme-config_1.0.1-1_amd64.deb) ...
Setting up gtk-theme-config (1.0.1-1) ...
Processing triggers for desktop-file-utils ...
Processing triggers for mime-support ...
Processing triggers for hicolor-icon-theme ...
but apparently doesn't work :shock: or i don't know how to use it

gtk-theme-config was added to the debian archive (available in sid at the moment)

Code: Select all

zerozero@zerozero-vb:~$ apt show gtk-theme-config
Package: gtk-theme-config
New: yes
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 1.0-1
Priority: optional
Section: gnome
Maintainer: Xubuntu Developers <xubuntu-devel@lists.ubuntu.com>
Architecture: amd64
Uncompressed Size: 131 k
Depends: gconf2, gsettings-desktop-schemas, libatk1.0-0 (>= 1.12.4), libc6 (>=
         2.3.4), libcairo-gobject2 (>= 1.10.0), libcairo2 (>= 1.2.4),
         libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (>= 2.22.0), libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.35.9), libgtk-3-0

         1.14.0), libx11-6
Recommends: xfconf
Conflicts: gtk-theme-config
Description: simple interface to change GTK+ themes
 Change some basic elements of a GTK+ theme easily (both GTK2 and GTK3) with a
 simple interface.

this proposal makes no sense now :P

zz, a BIG THANKS for compiling this. I was able to install this on another debian testing computer cloning from git, but have pulled my hair out on this box using the unmodified sources.list in SolydX. Maybe a lack of a deb-src was at issue? Without messing with git this time, I don't think the build dependencies, gtk3-devel and glib2-devel were available in synaptic.

Did you build from the source files?

In any event, very nice. I love this one.

Edit: This one has finally made it into Xubuntu: http://packages.ubuntu.com/saucy/gtk-theme-config

Looks like a straight deb file.

Chris
Thanks 8-)
the compiling instructions are here >> http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php? ... 9707#p9692
being available in sid (and shortly in testing) makes this proposal redundant but, yes, it's an interesting tool :geek:

That was the problem. Thanks again. Great that it's in debian.
