'solydxk-system' dep on 'cryptsetup-initramfs'

Postby koczis » 15 Dec 2019 03:01

Hi,
each time update does something with 'initramfs' I get this warning with suggestion:

Code: Select all

Przetwarzanie wyzwalaczy pakietu initramfs-tools (0.133+deb10u1)...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.19.0-6-amd64
cryptsetup: WARNING: The initramfs image may not contain cryptsetup binaries
nor crypto modules. If that's on purpose, you may want to uninstall the
'cryptsetup-initramfs' package in order to disable the cryptsetup initramfs
    integration and avoid this warning.
When I try the suggestion I get:

Code: Select all

koczis@kocntt:~$ apt remove cryptsetup-initramfs
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  cryptsetup-run haveged libhavege1 pv python3-dateutil
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  cryptsetup cryptsetup-initramfs solydxk-system
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 3 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 2452 kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n
Abort.
Why does 'solydxk-system' depend on 'cryptsetup-initramfs'?
Wouldn't it be nicer if it didn't?

It is needed to be able to encrypt partitions without having an internet connection to install cryptsetup-initramfs on the fly.

This means that if cryptsetup was not installed and a user without an internet connection would want to encrypt a partition, that would be impossible.

I could always make it a recommended package. This would make it possible for the user to remove the package if needed.

I find the update message annoying.
Also, encrypting isn't crucial. Is it that frequent, as to make it the necessary dependency?
