SteamOS graphics divers

Postby Omega » 29 Jan 2014 11:05

I think Solydxk would benefit if all graphics divers are used or synced from SteamOS rather than Debian Testing.

Debian takes too long to get this updated in Testing, and Valve is already doing the testing of the updated drivers for us.

What do you guys think?

if anyone wants to update to newer drivers use sgfxi:

Step 1:
Logout, and go to terminal, and login as root:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/local/bin && wget -Nc smxi.org/sgfxi && chmod +x sgfxi && sgfxi

Step 2:
If you get an error of any kind, reboot, and run it again, and you should be good to go.

Optional:
If you're a wifi user:

Code: Select all

nano /etc/network/interfaces
Add this:

Code: Select all

#my wifi connection
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid ssid
wpa-psk password
reboot

proceed with step 1

Enjoy much better steam fps and desktop stability

IMHO, it could be interesting but (there's always a but...) graphic drivers in Debian are tested with a Debian install, and Solyd is build on Debian. Steam OS is build on a Debian stable base modified by Steam's squad.
It could have some dependencies/modifications/... that doesn't fit to a Solyd system.
Perhaps a good way to the community is to give Steam's work to Debian's squad: this could speed up graphics drivers integration into Debian's...with all needed tests.
They did not know it was impossible so they did it.
