SolydXK Laptop

Postby Arjen Balfoort » 13 Mar 2016 08:37

I'm looking for a laptop which I can pre-install with SolydXK but I'm not really satisfied with the options I found on the net.

This is what I'm looking for:
  • Intel based system with i7 CPU.
  • Intel graphics.
  • ~512GB SSD.
  • 8GB memory.
  • 15.6" screen.
  • Optional: get the SolydXK logo on the case.
  • Very important: no Windows!
So, something like this, but then with another CPU: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/genesisV-17/

Can you help me search for such a system?

Acer sells some of their TravelMate notebooks with a preinstalled chinese Linux, without any support though. You can delete it and install SolydXK instead.

Or have a look here: http://www.heise.de/preisvergleich/?cat ... tem#xf_top

Seems to be Acer (4) ASUS (1) Lenovo (2) Medion (3) MSI (3) Nexoc (1) and Schenker (77) ?? Never heard about the last one but they seem to have a nice product range and sell all notebooks without OS (http://www.mysn.de).

They assemble in Germany. What price range did you consider?

Thanks, gentlemen. That gave me some ideas.

For future reference, here are some Dutch suppliers:
https://www.bto.eu/
http://www.snaaksystems.nl
http://www.notebooktotaal.nl

And a supplier of mini PCs I might be interested in:
http://www.hystou.com

My current development system is a mini-ITX system. I've never had something this solid (pun intended).

Those mini PCs look good. Do you think they are suitable for server use? 24/7?

Do you know a company who imports them into EU?

This is the one I bought in the UK:
http://www.atlastsolutions.com/fanless- ... asus-q87t/
SolydXK is built on it and I bet it'll easily serve as a server.

I recently found a dealer in Holland:

Hello,

Here is some links to laptops that work well with linux. ChrisLAS from Jupiter broadcasting purchased both the bonobo and the 13" Apollo laptop as well as others and has done a through review on them. I hope this will help you, if you haven't already purchased one.

Now that's one cool laptop!

I've subscribed to get notified when the 14" is available.

Thanks, that's a good tip!
