Howdy From Lubbock, Texas!

Postby Fishman » 27 Sep 2013 17:16

Howdy! I am from Lubbock, Texas and am new to this community and this distro. I have tried linux distros in the past but with not much luck in practical application yet. I am excited about SolydK and just discovered this distro last night while surfing youtube reviews of Linux Distros for 2013. Quidsup gave a decent review so I thought, why not. I am so sick of Windows and The MS Crew I am desparate to be free and fly for a change. I look forward to becoming a part of this family. :D

Ok I promise to keep the headbanging to a minimum. LOL! I am pure SolydK now so I should have a pretty cool transition. Thank all of you for the warm welcomes. I feel like I am at home now. I promise also to be an active part of this community. By that I mean that as I learn I will be helping others also. I am reading the forum categories like a book now. I am also having lots of fun. My system runs cooler, faster and more efficiently. No more security issues like with the MS stuff. Please feel free to give me advise and to ask for help anytime. For now I am gonna keep on trucking along with SolydK. Again thanks for accepting me into this family of friends.

Greetings fellow Texan. I am not new to Linux, but am to Solyd. So far I like it. I definately prefer Debian derivatives like this one. It is a good solid base.

Howdy Podnuh! I still don't know who Sheldon Cooper is lol. I guess because I am not in East Texas. I originally hail from Arlington but have not lived there since 88. Welcome to this great community. I am growing everyday with SolydK. I prefer it to Ubuntu which was my first dealings with Linux about 3 years ago and then I gave up until recently. Now I am happier than I have ever been computing in many decades now. I hope that you will pull up a chair and stay awhile. This is a super community of people that are more than happy to help us.

An active and friendly community is very important when selecting distros. I spent a lot of time at CrunchBang which has such. Solyd seems friendly. A little small, but it is a new distro that seems to be growing.

So far this has been the bomb for me personally. I am still learning the linux way of everything but I am having a blast doing so. I have been watching tons of videos and read this forum like a reference manual LOL. When I watch youtube videos I usually watch those pertaining to Linux Mint that has helped me to figure out a lot of the basics. Have fun here. I am still trying to learn how to use IRC lol.

A lot of Mint stuff should apply to Solyd as it is another Debian descendant. KDE is not the main Mint DE, so KDE specific stuff may be lacking or not as relaible. But generic Linux stuff should apply.
