Hi All

Postby Brianrh » 01 Oct 2013 15:28

Sorry this should really be my first post on the forum but I got interested in a thread and posted a couple of replies before I reached this far.

I just nipped in for a look see what the SolydXK forum was like after having run SolydX from a live USB drive. I'm torn between the convenience and available resources of Ubuntu based distros and the purity of direct Debian based distros which do not always have the packages you need in their repositories.

I've been on distro walkabout but keep coming back to Debian. I used Solus OS for a while but drifted off, then back to Crunchbang, a while on Manjaro and now, quite likely SolydX.

I've notice already quite a few names I recognise from the Solus OS forum, I don't know if like me they have drifted away or if they manage to combine interest and time for both.

First impressions are very nice distro and very friendly forum.

Brian

Hi Brianrh,

Welcome to SolydXK. I have also been hopping in the past between Ubuntu, Zorin, Mint (debian), Mageia and Manjaro but now I will stick to SolydK. Your packages "problem" has never been a problem to me, when you don't find it in the repositories, you can install it with Gdebi package manager quite easily. Manjaro (Openbox) was in this respect sometimes more difficult, but after SolydXK, Manjaro is my distro of choice. The other thing with Manjaro was that installing printers etc. could be difficult.

Anyways, I'm glad that my search is over, I hope yours is too.

Regards,

Joost

Hi Brianrh,

Welcome to SolydXK!
Glad to see your here.
There's a lot to like about SolydX and SolydK, I have both installed now and am enjoying them equally.
The steady and solyd release cycle, constant improvements and great community here make it an easy stay.

Best of luck in all,
timber

Welcome. I tried SolusOS for a while and liked it. I also drifted away, not sure why. Just didn't feel "at home" there. Loving Solyd so far tho.
