Another joiner here....

Postby civfreak » 20 Feb 2014 06:37

Hello Ladies and Gents:

I took notice of SolydXK when it was released on DW. I started using Linux in 1997 or so...mostly Red Hat and Libranet (http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resour ... w-libranet) :o

I used to put it on aging desktops that I put into the guest room. And loved it when guests would come stay over and want to check their webmail. The look on their faces when the machine booted up was priceless.

Anyway, I kinda laid off Linux from 2004 to 2007 but then got back into it in a big way. I have one machine I dual boot an EL distro on (Scientific Linux) and I have another laptop I wanted a more current, Debian preferred, distro on to run Steam and just for general desktop use.

Once I looked closer at SolydXK and how it was being maintained, I jumped right on board. This is also a nice friendly board which is also a prerequisite :)

Glad to be here.

EDIT: Yes, I am a Civ Freak :) So many hours in it it's downright embarrassing . In Linux I play Crusader Kings II which thankfully has been ported over. I've been a gamer since the eighties and I've never slacked off. I'm no spring chicken either. :geek:

Thank you. All is well with Steam. Now Netflix is bugging me. Determined to get that working. :). I used to run it in a VM. I also use Hulu Desktop but that's not an issue :)

Thanks...I'll check it. I have run Netflix Desktop in Mint 16 Xfce and I dont think I was getting HD. I got better results running it full screen in a Win 7 VM which I'll do if all else fails :)
