i remember having asked about the sources/packages when i had the problem with amd/radeon driver and i fear i have deleted some. however, isnt there an easy way to just reset all packages and sources to default?

Re: For KDE users: Animated DreamDesktop

and again i try to fix it and it just locks

E: Konnte Sperre /var/lib/apt/lists/lock nicht bekommen - open (11: Die Ressource ist zur Zeit nicht verfügbar)
E: Das Verzeichnis /var/lib/apt/lists/ kann nicht gesperrt werden.

basically there is just no way to add a new source to packages list. if i add it via software-administration it just asks to reload packages afterwards and this fails, if i add it via synaptic the whole program crashes. this is not normal. well another reboot then.

ok, thank you!

action one

Code: Select all

gksu kate /etc/apt/sources.list
replace all the content of the file with

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/production/multimedia testing main non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.com/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://community.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk main
save, close

Code: Select all

apt update && apt dist-upgrade

NOTE:
1- you can change to the preferred mirror afterwards, now th most important thing is get the correct repos;
2- i'm not surprised plasma-widget-cwp was asked to be removed (seeing the origin of the package)

you're welcome ;)

dreamdesktop is very openGL demanding, afaik you are using the radeon drivers, it's possible that they don't have the enough power for this animation
or lowering the settings for a slower fps

I made a deb file with checkinstall and installed it. It is a resource hog and it seems to suffer from some kind of memory leak. Unfortunately, hardware acceleration through VDPAU has not arrived in Debian testing yet, for the open source ATI drivers. So perhaps it will work better when that happens. I made a short video. The recording is choppy, but the actual desktop animation is pretty fluid.

Iframe is not allowed anymore. Click here to watch the movie.

:shock: I never knew this was out there :shock:
wanted to start playing in blender this might give me the reason for doing so now or maybe I can throw together some 2d lightweight ones.
If my wife sees the star trek ones I'll be doing another install as soon as possible on her system :lol:
Thanks for giving me another toy to play with :D
soon as I get some free time I'll be installing this one.
Sam

Edit: I found this through a quick search, I might give it a try also and see how it works.
posting it for anyone that is interested: http://thinkmoult.com/tech-tip-11-how-t ... rs-in-kde/
Also found a how to for making animating backgrounds if anyone is interested, it uses C++ by the looks of it for those who know it.
