There is a way to make it work in kde as an animated live wallpaper, it's just a matter of making all the cels separatly then calling them in the code, but as I said it uses C++ and qt for it, I've been looking into it but still got aways to go, it peaked my interest so I'll be digging into it again in the future.
You could also save the images sepratley and run them as a slideshow for the wallpaper and just time them so it looks nice, usually 8 to 12 frames per sec should do it, that comes standard with kde and would work, just not sure how quick you make it change and how the cpu would react to it.
Let me know if you want the images separated into cels images and I'll do it for you if you want, it'll only take me about 5 minutes.

Thought of animated wallpaper. But comes down to resources.
On my older Amd dual-core with default graphics on my Ati 4350.
The animated steamclock uses 25% on both my cores when doing nothing else.

So one little animated widget on desktop not so distracting as the whole desktop animated.
Guess it comes down to personal tastes.. As even thinking of changing wallpaper to less busy Steampunk version.

And yep forgot the animated steamclock is in the regualar Get Widgets
thru the regular Add widgets and search Steampunk.

As there are two there ready to install without the need to go anywhere to find them.
One is even more extensive mechanical clock/calendar.

Over the last week I revamped my SolydX desktop. I replaced XFCE with LXDE (I can probably trim some fat and go with just openbox) and am using the openbox menu. I built the Applications menu for my openbox main-menu using obconf & geany. I also modified the lxde-rc configuration file for openbox significantly.

Openbox theme is Black-Aurora & LXDE theme is placidtheme-v15 (lxappearance). Tango icons.
The small LXPanel in the corner is setup to be covered by any maximized windows.

My Wonky Desktop  Had to find a theme that was still functional on the Internet, the "Gnomish Dark" theme the input boxes were ether black background with black font or white on white. :? The "zoncolor Evening" theme was dark enough it didn't mess with my eyes and fixed the problem that I was having with "Gnomish Dark" but would crash anything that needed Gtk3 theming so bad I had to change the theme and log off and back on to get them back. So I just replace the gtk3 file in "zoncolor" with a copy of the one in "gnomishdark" What can I say, but it's working. ;)

BTW: This is a netbook so most of the time it is on a 9in. screen.

SolydX with the panel running as deskbar with DockBarX in the panel instead of the usual window buttons.

I tend to keep things pretty simple, I'd rather spare what limited resources I usually have for function over form, but I do like it to look usable.

Font: Liberation Sans Narrow
Window Theme: Greybird-master (from git repo)
Icon Theme: elementary-xfce-dark (from git repo with some modifications to panel icon set since links were missing)

I had some great fun today with a victim.. ehm.. i mean windows user.. I showed to him the new super-secret version of windows. Somehow, they always fall for it. He was astonished by how good the new windows explorer was and its new features :D He didn't even ask what SolydK was..
