It seems to be a problem with the new PAE and Plymouth.
Can you boot into another kernel?
If so, start Debian Plymouth Manager, scroll down the "Installed themes" list, select "None: no plymouth splash", and hit "Set Plymouth Theme".
If not, boot into recovery mode, login as root, and run this commands:

Code: Select all

nano /etc/default/grub
Make sure you remove "splash" from the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line:

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"
Now these commands:

Code: Select all

update-grub
update-initramfs -u -k all
reboot

You can still run the commands if you boot into recovery mode, and login as root.

Okay, lets purge plymouth completely:

Code: Select all

apt-get purge plymouth*

Perhaps the xorg.conf file is in the way. Try this:

Code: Select all

rm -v /etc/X11/xorg.conf
reboot
If that didn't do it, what do you see when you run:

Code: Select all

startx

in my X11 directory i have
xorg.conf.original-1
xorg.conf.original-0

i rename them to .old and reboot but am back with the black screen i really trying not to do a clean install because i have a LVM of 5TB which i really don't want to mess with and loose my data, but if i have to i will just have to bite the bullet which will be a bummer :(

Those are already backed up files. So, renaming them won't change the behavior.
I assume you didn't have an xorg.conf file, but did you try to run "startx" as I mentioned in my previous post?

If you ever do a reintall, I recommend to keep the OS on a separate partition or disk. That way you won't lose your data when things go wrong.
