Now that issue seems to be solved, can I remove the re-installation of nvidia-kernel-dkms in UM's post script?
Or leave it there just in case?

That's a hard one, because I can only speak for myself. I've been running my test-UPs from the command line. It hasn't been necessary to reinstall nvidia-kernel-dkms on any of them.

Just ran another, K64 fresh install from 11-25 iso, this time with production nvidia 3.19.60 installed. I wasn't really expecting any issues, and there were none. Nothing kept back, it ran as smooth as glass. These things seem to do that lately, no matter what dumb stuff the guy in front of the keyboard does [removal of prefs file on the other partition]...

All smooth as glass. I normally don't use plymouth, and I auto-login bacause I'm the only one on this machine, but can run tests with plymouth and login enabled if needed.
