sysvinit was not removed. some programs like samba didn't have systemd service file yet and executed using systemd's sysvinit backwad compatibility. the things got removed is sysvinit-core which basicly symlinked /bin/init to sysvinit. it replaced with systemd-sysv which change the symlink of /bin/init to /lib/systemd/systemd. I think we will still using sysvinit until all packages fully move into systemd.

anyway, systemd-ui wasn't needed. it's either useless or have unknown functionality. I never use it on system. first of all, you can try to downgrade kde as schoelje suggested. if that didn't work you'll have two option. if you want a 'chalenge' you can try to debug your system and try to fix the issues but if you want a quick solution you'll need to reinstall your system.

Schoelje the items you listed are already installed, and yes I still have kdenext packages on system though I did have to do some downgrading awhile back due to updates from testing. rc.local looks like this:
#!/bin/sh -e
#
# rc.local
#
# This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel.
# Make sure that the script will "exit 0" on success or any other
# value on error.
#
# In order to enable or disable this script just change the execution
# bits.
#
# By default this script does nothing.

mkdir -p /dev/cgroup/cpu
mount -t cgroup cgroup /dev/cgroup/cpu -o cpu
mkdir -m 0777 /dev/cgroup/cpu/user
echo "/usr/local/sbin/cgroup_clean" > /dev/cgroup/cpu/release_agent
echo 2000 > /sys/module/block/parameters/events_dfl_poll_msecs

exit 0
kurotsugi is right sysvinit-core was removed but not sysvinit. My sytem shows systemd right after grub? I reinstalled pulse audio and installed python-systemd just out of curiosity and all seems to be working again. Will see what happens next? It had been pretty uneventful with updates over the last week so need a little excitment.

these lines

Code: Select all

mkdir -p /dev/cgroup/cpu
mount -t cgroup cgroup /dev/cgroup/cpu -o cpu
mkdir -m 0777 /dev/cgroup/cpu/user
echo "/usr/local/sbin/cgroup_clean" > /dev/cgroup/cpu/release_agent
echo 2000 > /sys/module/block/parameters/events_dfl_poll_msecs
AFAIK they were a remnant of LMDE. there was a problem on the kernel back in the old days where the kernel failed to create /dev/cgroup/cpu/ the problem have been fixed long time ago and these scripts didn't required anymore. you can safely delete these lines from your rc.local.

the policy for dropping kdenext from solydk have great impact for solydk. IMO it will be safer if you remove kdenext from your system at least until we got kde 5 in debian testing. in case if you resist to use kdenext I'd suggest to follow siduction repo and forum. AFAIK they're still using kdenext and got regular updates for kdenext.

Thanks kurotsugi I have removed those lines and will remove kdenext from sources list. I will see how reboot goes. I plan on sticking with the debian testing KDE so no need for siduction kdenext. :D

Looks like cups gets messed up in the systemd update so it wont start. Had to purge hal packages to get rid of startup errors. I did run the unkdenext script but not sure I know what to do after it was run?

cups log files are inside /var/log/cups.

Code: Select all

sudo cat /var/log/cups/error_log
sudo cat /var/log/cups/access_log

the only error message was

Code: Select all

I [04/Jul/2014:08:44:06 -0700] Please move "SystemGroup lpadmin" on line 4 of /etc/cups/cupsd.conf to the /etc/cups/cups-files.conf file; this will become an error in a future release.

E [04/Jul/2014:08:44:06 -0700] Unknown directive SubscriptionPrivateValues on line 92 of /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.
you can do what it suggested and see what happened.

the other weird information is that you have 66 print jobs

Code: Select all

D [04/Jul/2014:08:49:12 -0700] Report: jobs=66
nevertheless the log file said that you cups is working just fine.

Thanks kurotsugi, I had noticed these lines:
D [04/Jul/2014:08:44:06 -0700] Calling FindDeviceById(cups-Epson_Stylus_NX430)
D [04/Jul/2014:08:44:06 -0700] FindDeviceById failed: org.freedesktop.ColorManager.NotFound:device id 'cups-Epson_Stylus_NX430' does not exist
which have me baffled, I reinstalled the printers drivers but still no change. There was some udev packages i believe in yesterdays updates but I thought they were part of systemd updates. I'm sure it will get corrected in updates over the next week. Sound is still affected, it is very delayed at startup. Takes about 15 mins to show up? I dont think its kde since I can login to e17 or mate and still same issue. Thanks again and I will see what rolls down next in updates. :D

it has "D" tag so that it's just a common message. "I" means warn message while "E" means error message. "D" only tells what happened on the system. you should not worry about this message :3

it might not be the same issue but this bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=753816 is also about systemd and sound.
although there the question seems to be a race condition with the load timing of the modules (as you can follow in comments #45 #50 and #55)
bliss of ignorance

Double Z, has SolydXK transitioned to systemd? If not, have you? Is it time to make the move?

https://wiki.debian.org/systemd - I'm assuming "no" for the 1st question.

Gene posted something somewhere not too long ago that he was waiting, but that may be old news now.

I'm not on my linux machine right now. I don't think Debian Testing has made the transition yet - I think it's installed, but you have to manually implement it. Thanks

on the next UP solydxk will fully move into systemd. sysvinit-core will be uninstalled and replaced with systemd-sysv. thus, upon reboot you'll using systemd as your init system.

Among other things, sysvinit-core contains the shutdown and reboot commands, so I don't think it will be uninstalled.

they already did and it have been confirmed by freebeekey
kurotsugi is right sysvinit-core was removed but not sysvinit. My sytem shows systemd right after grub? I reinstalled pulse audio and installed python-systemd just out of curiosity and all seems to be working again. Will see what happens next? It had been pretty uneventful with updates over the last week so need a little excitment
systemd-sysv create symlink of /sbin/init to /lib/systemd/systemd thus replace the functionality of sysvinit-core.
Among other things, sysvinit-core contains the shutdown and reboot commands, so I don't think it will be uninstalled.
systemd already have these function for a long time. since the symlink is now handled by systemd-sysv then sysvinit-core isn't needed anymore. you can take a look into these unit files

Code: Select all

systemctl list-unit-files |grep shutdown
systemd-shutdownd.service static
systemd-update-utmp-shutdown.service static
systemd-shutdownd.socket static
shutdown.target static

systemctl list-unit-files |grep reboot
systemd-reboot.service static
reboot.target disabled

I just finished updating a second conputer running solydk 64 to debian testing and again sound is delayed for 15 or twenty minutes and cups fails. So far a week has passed and no fixes but kurotsugi had mentioned sysvinit not being removed. I removed it but no change. Also noticed sysvinit-utils is still installed but if you try to remove it, it needs to remove way too much, including cups and part of sound system. Looks like updated systemd is not fully set up to replace sysvinit-utils? :x

Lot of packages in todays update (over 100 just for today). Updated kernel 13.14.12-1 .Was 20 some xserver packages but skipped them due to wanting to remove NVIDIA. Still waiting on cups /systemd fix. :)
