this topic is a bit abandoned (my fault :o ); not that nothing relevant happens in testing but usually we get the updates through the UP fairly quick emptying in some way this topic

but i pretend to change this
and starting with some relevant news; in the last days we had a couple interesting updates

the kernel was updated to 3.9.8

Code: Select all

Preparing to replace linux-image-3.9-1-amd64 3.9.6-1 (using .../linux-image-3.9-1-amd64_3.9.8-1_amd64.deb) ...
also libgtk-3-0 was updated to version 3.8.2 (another slow step in the (slow) gnome3.8 migration)

Code: Select all

Preparing to replace libgtk-3-0:amd64 3.4.2-6 (using .../libgtk-3-0_3.8.2-3_amd64.deb) ...
and this update brings a long expected (because we saw it in sid some time ago) issue with theming: oxygen-gtk3 renders badly the drop-down menus in the gtk3 applications
snapshot109.png
(it needs an update that we expect happens until end of the month or we will do it ourselves)

'z'...yes, and other themes just break totally. Apps do not launch, and light dm breaks with some themes. Users may have to try several themes to find one that works with the new libgtk-3-0 . Updates will come down from SID in the next few weeks, that allow several themes to work.
Zukitwo
Mediterranean.xx (series) are a couple.... ;)
I haven't tried too many others.

I noticed the text turned white where it should be black in a few menus and apps like synaptic with my greybird-git theme, so I went trying a few other themes and a couple other good ones that seem to work fine besides the ones mentioned above are... "Cobibird", "elementary-dkpanel", "gnome-cupertino" & "Elementaryish" which I m currently using.

hi sobe..

I'll add your themes to a list of those that work. Perhaps others will need a list of good working themes when it effects the Update Packs.... ;)

now there's a good idea 8-) you both could (with steenkin  links) organize a topic for this upcoming situation: we will focus on oxygen-gtk but not everybody (can't understand why? ) fancies oxygen

Sure thing 'z'. I noticed that with recent SID updates that more and more themes are working with the gtk updates.
I'll try more and keep a list, and start a thread when it gets sorted. 'Oxygen' theme is fine (as long as I can change that hideous blue halo window border)... ... sorry, i know its just me... :?

Here are the links to the current themes that are working for me.

Elementaryish
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ ... ent=155287

CobiBird
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ ... ent=157985

Gnome Cupertino
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ ... ent=147061

MediterraneanNight Series
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ ... ent=156782

Adwaita-X dark/light
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ ... ent=150905

I am upgrading SolydX to sid this weekend, probably tomorrow so after that I'll see if they all still work :)
They all work on my LinuxBBQ Proof install which is sid with Xfce so they should work in SolydX as well I'm thinking.
And don't worry, if anything breaks I'll keep the pieces :P

I upgraded SolydX to sid this morning and now Greybird theme from shimmer project works just fine. I'm not sure why the text issues with it under testing.

KDE SC 4.10.5 is now active in Debian testing!

Who did not activate kdenext, will get it in then next update package. What will happen with kdenext?
