Schoelje, any comment on this?
hekkeus wrote: Why not use correctly formatted md5sum file?
More than once i've had this error when trying to check the dwnloaded iso:
md5sum: solydx64_201411.iso.md5sum: no properly formatted MD5 checksum lines found

Currently the md5 file contains this:
SolydX 64-bit: c2791574a34e682f5b83bbc0be65e4c4

while a properly formatted formatted file would contain this:
c2791574a34e682f5b83bbc0be65e4c4 solydx64_201411.iso

Thank you for reporting this. However, it does not have a priority at the moment.

I had to use the 201407 ISO and do an update to install it on my new computer. Here's what happened when I tried to install using the 201411 iso (look at the date of my last post - it was the ISO uploaded before the one currently available on that date.

If running the installer while not connected to the internet, here is the error (which goes away if you start the installer after setting up internet connection):

Code: Select all

File "/usr/lib/live-installer/frontend/gtk-interface.py" line 582 in assign_language active=active[1][0] IndexError: list index out of range
I could not continue the installer after partitioning for some reason. It worked fine though in the 201407 iso. But in the 201411 iso, after getting all the partitions done and refreshing in the installer, I click "Next" to go onto the next step (which should have asked me things like if I wanted to install grub, plymouth, multimedia, etc.) it gave this error:

Code: Select all

The installer has failed with the following unexpected error. Please submit a but report!
However, there was no other text in the dialog box.

Note that I did have a Boot/efi partition set up (ie. boot flags set) on what I thought was the windows boot partition. It had less than 100 MB free though (maybe half that). I did try setting up the boot flag also on another partition that was marked as "unknown" and was a 128MB partition. Still didn't work.

However, setting it up in the 201407 iso, I set the boot flag on both the partitions that I tried in the other iso and it worked just fine (and I can boot into Windows or SolydK just fine).

So, something may still be broken in the new installer but works well in the 201407 installer.

the feedback you are providing here was not using the latest isos, uploaded on the 9th and 10th?

@zerozero: I just checked the date on the file. It's actually the 11/5/2014 Solydk-64 ISO that I used.

That isn't good. It may be unique to how my system is set up. I do have a lot of partitions.

Code: Select all

solydk64_201411.iso 09-Nov-2014 10:51 1.8G
installation without active internet connection:
- live-installer works as expected.
snapshot1.png
- i noticed, tho, that in the partitioning page (BTW, glad to see the additional info back) it defaults to the usb-key from where i'm installing and offers to format it.

I have finally succeeded in building ISOs that actually install...
not here, Schoelje, I'm afraid. sorry for that.

I'm referring to the following development ISOs:

solydk64_201411.iso 09-Nov-2014 10:51 1.8G with md5sum 1cd1abf8acfeca886f665c44516382c5

and

solydx64_201411.iso 10-Nov-2014 03:03 1.4G with md5sum dbcd83d67c4a3a67774b09730e8a4774

both X and K live installers exit without completing the installation. it happens on two different computers. the behaviour is identical on both.

1. live session starts perfectly

2. establish Wi-Fi internet connection

3. start live-installer (with the Install icon or from terminal)

4. Language slide appears. It correctly detects my current geographical location (Russia). after that, in K it proceeds in Russian. in X it proceeds in English.

5. select English (United States) as the system's language. the subsequent slides are correctly presented in English.

6. Timezone slide appers. select Ireland (Dublin). it perfectly corresponds to all my format preferences

7. Keyboard layout silde arrives. select English (UK) on one computer, Italian on another. these are physical keyboard layouts on two different computers.

8. User info slide arrives. fill in my real name, login name, etc.

9. click Forward button to continue

at this point the installer refuses to continue. it happens while installer tries to pass from User info to Partitioning slide.

in K it presents two popup windows. the first one is informational, the second one is of error type.

in X it doesn't show the informational popup, and presents only the error message.

error popup is identical for both K and X.

i'm trying to install from an USB key, which is correctly detected by SolydXK as "Cruzer Fit (3GB)".

i'm sorry to not being able to get a screenshot to show up the two popups. this is what they're saying:

Installation Tool. No partition table was found on the hard drive: Removable: Cruzer Fit (3GB). Do you want the installer to create a set of partitions for you? Note: This will ERASE ALL DATA present on this disk. Yes No.

my answer is No.

immediately after clicking No button the error popup appears:

[X] Unexpected error. The installer has failed with the following unexpected error. Please submit a bug report! OK

the error message above is not truncated by me. it informs about an "unexpected error", but doesn't specify it explicitely.

after clicking OK in error popup the installer simply exits, without futher errors. live session continues to work correctly.

if it could be of some help, this is the live-installer execution from a terminal:

Code: Select all

i'm not asking for any solution, this is merely to inform you that probably the installer still has some problem. reproducing the sequence of downloading the ISOs, checking its integrity, preparing the live media to boot from can't find any error or something different from a usual path i follow.

Thank you all for your feedback.

I've updated the live-installer. So, if you boot the live ISO, before you start the live-installer from terminal, please run these commands:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
This should install the 2014.11.11 live-installer and slideshow.

The translations are now not a priority (it'll take too long to get all translations complete), but correctly installing on various systems is. Especially when using several disks.

YES! It does the trick, and solves the problem. Grande Schoelje! Респект и уважуха. (pure Italian and Russian gergo express the respect to distro's author better than English :D ).

with two updated packages

Code: Select all

...
Get:1 http://home.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk/main live-installer all 2014.11.11 [1,487 kB]
Get:2 http://home.solydxk.com/production/ solydxk/main live-installer-slideshow all 2014.11.11 [178 kB]
Fetched 1,665 kB in 3s (417 kB/s)
...
the same ISOs install perfectly.

will pass to application tests later.

Okay then!
I'll rebuild the ISOs and upload them when done. That will take a while, but if all goes well, they will be available for download tomorrow.

forgot to mention. the successfull installation (above) was done on a computer with two physical internal disks. the installed system uses three partitions from the first one and two partitions from the second one.

if i remember well, this is absolutely the first time when i can use both disks in solydxk right after the installation, without manually editing fstab and creating the mount points.

well done!

the live-installer tries to confuse the user by naming it as sdb and sdc (instead of sda and sdb), but this is a very common joke for almost all modern installers. solydxk uses UUIDs in fstab, so unless the user reformat some of the used partitions it doesn't cause any problem for a freshly installed system.

That's pretty good news for those having a small SSD for root partitions and wanting to have big homes in different HDs. I was planning to rebuild my machine like this for a while. Thanks, Schoelje! Looking forward to this.
Today I received mine as well and I'm going to use that one to implement SSD support for the next live-installer.
This likely means that your installation is broken. -Mr Pixbuf.

However, if you feel you like to check the translations for your language now, I've uploaded the .po files.

I perform this Japanese translation:

I use new dev iso, and the place interested elsewhere does not occur.

I am going to build the final ISOs next Saturday.
Until then you can upload translations for the live-installer.

do not know your reasons for including softwaremanager instead of solydxk-softwaremanager in the isos but i can't recommend it
