I know. This is the way to do it.
The desktop icons shouldn't have been messed up. That's the user environment and cannot be altered by dpkg.
True, but if the user has icons on their desktop that are solely provided by a certain package which is removed, the system may try to deal with that before the new package providing those icons is installed and fail in some way. Mind you, I'm just guessing. I don't know how the system handles this exactly.
I still cannot reproduce that and that's why I'm leaving those packages in testing: they need more testing.
I'll run some tests as well.

@Ilu,
What theme and icon theme are you using?

I have just routinely upgraded my SolydX (32-bit) stable system today and this included an upgrade of "solydxk-system" from version 2.3.8 to 2.3.9. My system now shows the following:

Code: Select all

roger@dino:~$ inxi -r

After logout and login again, no change was apparent with my Desktop icons. My XFCE4 Style is "oxygen-gtk" and Icons are "Oxygen".

All still seems to be working well with my current packages. HTH.

That's a system without the 'testing' component in the solydxk sources line, so not affected by the changes mentioned in this thread.

grizzler: It's xfce-dawn with oxygen but I also use manually assigned icons from wherever I could find something suitable. Come to think of it: Not all icons got removed during the update, only some (sadly I can't remember which ones) and they then stumbled in again starting from upper left corner. Which sounds like your theory, but I wouldn't worry too much since my system is comparatively old (oxygen!) and reorganizing icons is not too hard.

One of the (VM) systems I ran the test on was also quite old. It also had the oxygen icon theme and the icons, which were spread around the desktop, all stayed put. It doesn't look like anything in the system-adjustments package has a direct effect on the icon set anyway...
