Thanks Tardy, Good link. I had no idea it was such a security risk. Was one of those things I had used for years an grown use to.

It appears with KDE5, that the kscreensaver package no longer exists, unfortunately. Therefore, in the current development solydk_9_64_201704.iso, there is no screensaver functionality available OOTB. As suggested by http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=138037.0, I experimented with xscreensaver. It feels a bit old, does not integrate well with Systemsettings-UI, but it works OK. What shall we do about this?

A bit old sounds about right. I use it with SolydX (just the screen locker, not the saver) and I can't say I actually like it.

Also, we can probably expect more of this type of fun with it:

There was a suggestion to replace it with light-locker: viewtopic.php?f=72&t=6582
May be worth investigating.

Yes, I am aware of these topics: true, there is some ancientness about xscreensaver ;) OTOH, I do not see a better alternative just yet, as light-locker is just a screen-locker, not a screen-saver, while xscreensaver can do both, be it primitive. And, I wonder what happened to kscreensaver?!?

Kscrennsavers was listed as another big security risk. I hope they can come up with a new alternative but I have not really used sceensavers for quit some time. I take lots of pictures and choose to use them as a slideshow for the desktop. :)

wayland is coming so X will eventually die. xscreensaver will die along too.it might be true that X will stay on debian for quite long time but an early move is beneficial for us. as usual, if an user want to get xscreensaver, they could install it from the repo.

I've added the packages to the solydxk-9 repository.

Perhaps you noticed that there were some updates on the solydxk-9 repository: updated packages and I removed the packages that are no longer used (they are still available for the solydxk-8 users).

Yesterday I've built the beta ISOs but upload failed. It takes about 6 hours now with my current hardware. I'm uploading again but it can take a while

I'm trying to create an upgrade path for SolydK-8 201701 to SolydK-9 but I haven't been successfull, yet. SolydX was no problem at all.

If I have the ISOs ready for download, I'll post that in the announcements forum.

Could you please post your exact steps into this thread: https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6915

So we'd have something official at least for SolydX.

I have opened a beta testing topic here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6930

This includes scripts for upgrading SolydXK-8.
