Upgrading EE from Stretch to Buster

Postby xendistar » 15 Jun 2017 19:59

With Stretches impending release on Saturday (17th) what is the correct procedure regarding updates, is it best not to do any updates until the new SolydXK EE version is released or is it better to hack your repo list to point at stretch?

the first week after debian got released could be a nightmare for testing. during the freeze period lot of packages couldn't enter testing repo and stuck in unstable repo. after debian got released, they open the gate and those packages flooded into testing. the common advice is waiting 1-2 weeks until the flood calmed down. if there's no breakage, backup and your system and see whether if you can safely update your system.

So both your sources.list point at "testing" and not at stretch? If you want to stay at stretch I would hack the repo list, if you want to advance with testing I would hold off on updates until things settle down like kurotsugi proposed.

Everybody else: Your /etc/apt/sources.list should point at "jessie" (you may check that) and you should keep it that way until further notice.

Code: Select all

deb http://repository.solydxk.com solydxk-ee main upstream import
deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian testing main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org testing/updates main contrib non-free

Thanks for the info. I have adjusted my source list to have stretch rather than testing for now. I thought this would be the route to take.

Once the new EE is released I intend to do a complete reinstall

Arjen,
Could you give the solydxk repository a kick? It looks like the -9/-ee section hasn't been updated. Firefox is still on 53.0.3 there (-8 is ok).

When Arjen has had time to update things (new system-adjustment package, check solydxk-10 repo is up to speed, make -ee point to -10 and whatever else needs to be done).
I don't have access to all of that, so we depend on him and he's mentioned he has hardware issues that need to be fixed first (I had some too - disk problems - but they've been sorted - I think...).

I've updated the repository.

I'm working on the beta ISOs now and will upload asap. I hope I'll have time to do that this weekend.
If I'm ready to change the repository configuration I'll let you know.

My main lapton (EE kde) was upgraded today. Not a single problem to report.
Sunday i upgraded two boxes, ad a laptop. From SolydK-8 to debian stretch. It was way more complicated.
I'm enjoying my EE more than before.

Code: Select all

sanclaudio: You have still solydxk-ee in your sources.list - is that right? I think schoelje renamed that to solydxk-9. grizzler has documented the changes here: https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=5620. But shouldn't now solydxk-10 be correct? Maybe too early for that, because the repo for version 10 is still unfinished work in progress.
