the initramfs seems fine and the grub entry also succesfully created. since you also have mx 15, do you remember which linux actually manage the grub? there's a chance that mx 15 is the one manage the grub. in that case you'll have to repeat those two command in mx 15. the last (and the least) possibility is that grub is broken. in this case you'll have to use the live cd and repair the grub.

this tutorial should help you viewtopic.php?t=2774#p26392
please carefull when use this command

Code: Select all

sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sdX
the address should be sd<X> where X is an alphabet. it should be written as "sda" "sdb" or "sdc" without any number

Code: Select all

san-claudio@mx17:~
$ sudo update-initramfs -u
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-1-amd64
I: The initramfs will attempt to resume from /dev/sda6
I: (UUID=9ab59518-22b0-4b0d-a877-13ac4b5b0f45)
I: Set the RESUME variable to override this.
san-claudio@mx17:~

Code: Select all

san-claudio@solydxk:~$ uname -a

since grub is now managed by mx-15, please keep on mind that you'll need to upgrade grub from mx-15 when you got new kernel on solydxk. having mx-15 regularly updated might enouh but the new kernel won't recognized until grub got updated

There is a bug in apt-show-versions that breaks apt apt update. There is a workaround posted.
This is probably related to the perl transition.

The bug report https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=912695
The workaround https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... =912695#16

Today's update error

In today's update in Updatemanager 3.1.1 I received the following error
Max. recursion depth with nested structures exceeded at /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.28/Storable.pm line 278, at /usr/bin/apt-show-versions line 271.
Reading package lists... Done
E: Problem executing scripts APT::Update::Post-Invoke-Success 'test -x /usr/bin/apt-show-versions || exit 0 ; apt-show-versions -i'
E: Sub-process returned an error code
Typing sudo apt update in a console gets the same error.

Yesterdays update work just fine.

I cannot update until this is fixed.

Thanks

I'm using SolydX EE 64bit in SolydX 8

Did an update today and got this message

Code: Select all

Setting up iptables (1.8.2-2) ...
update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative /usr/sbin/iptables-nft because link group iptables is broken
update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative /usr/sbin/ip6tables-nft because link group ip6tables is broken
update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative /usr/sbin/arptables-nft because link group arptables is broken
update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative /usr/sbin/ebtables-nft because link group ebtables is broken
Checked Debian Bug reports ( https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=911899 ) but that says the big is fixed in version 1.8.2-2 has the complete fix not reached the debian testing repo yet?

AFAIK it's just a warning and message and doesn't affect system functionality. you can ignore it

Should I use gksudo or pkexec on a SolydXEE system? If pkexec how would the command look like? gksudo seems to not be there.

Btw december ISO installed well on metal.

apparently the bug isn't critical. my system still working after the upgrade. though, having a backup should be good
