Update Manager may fail to launch when using QTCurve in KDE

Postby TeaSwigger » 17 Apr 2014 09:06

Just reporting this minor odd behavior.

Issue: Update Manager will not launch when clicked on taskbar or from menu entry. Taskbar item "gksu" appears and times out.

Workaround: In System Settings > Application Appearance > GTK, select "oxygen-gtk" for "Select a GTK2 theme" while using Update Manager.

Thanks for reporting, it's odd
with that theme setup if you start UM from the commandline with

Code: Select all

updatemanager
what output you get?
bliss of ignorance

Hello zerozero :) As said it's "may fail" - earlier I couldn't get it to fail and now... it does, so I did as asked and here you are, output in konsole

Code: Select all

me@mine ~ $ updatemanager
/usr/bin/../lib/solydxk/updatemanager/updatemanagertray.py &
gksu --message "<b>Please enter your password</b>" '/usr/bin/../lib/solydxk/updatemanager/updatemanager.py &'
Repo URL = http://packages.solydxk.com/umfiles/prd
The program 'gksu' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 601 error_code 3 request_code 2 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
me@mine ~ $ Command to execute: ps -ef | grep updatemanagertray.py
Exit - UM tray already running with pid: 4472

Just thinking out loud here, but does the theme support Gtk+ (3) ?

In System Settings > Application Appearance > GTK module, you set GTK2 and GTK3 themes. The settings are separate. The behavior in question (may) occur with QTCurve selected for GTK2. GTK3 is still at the default setting of oxygen-gtk (there doesn't seem to be QTCurve for GTK3 unfortunately).

That's odd. UM is a GTK3/Python3 application.
I'm afraid I don't have an answer for that.
