Problem with updatemanager

Postby philipp » 11 May 2014 15:24

Hello!

First of all: Thank you for this great distro.

I am new at this forum and I have got a problem. After updating the system including the updatemanger to version 2.1.8 I can't access the updatemanager anymore, that means, that I have the according icon in the bar, but clicking on it won't open the updatemanger window. Right click on the icon opens a dropdown window, where I might quit or reload the updatemanger, which doesn't improve the situation. Also unistalling and reinstalling the updatemanger via the softwaremanager didn't help.

Thank you in advance for your help

Hi philipp, and welcome to our forum.

I'll need a bit more information.

First, let's check if the upgrade was ended successfully.
Open a terminal, and run:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
If this throws any errors, post them here.

If you didn't get any error, please quit the Update Manager (UM) tray icon: right-click > Quit.
Open a terminal, and run:

Code: Select all

updatemanager
Fill in your password if it asks so.
Post back the output of the terminal here (I hope to see the error message).

Thank you for your quick response!

I did as you said:

sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get dist-upgrade run through without any errors. Afterwards I quited the updatemanager and run updatemanger in a terminal with the following output:

philipp@proton:~$ updatemanager
/usr/bin/../lib/solydxk/updatemanager/updatemanagertray.py philipp &

No errors...
Now that I think of it: is this a clean install, or did you inherit the /home directory from a previous installation?

If so, you could try to create a new (testing) account, and login to that account to see if the problem persists.

It's a clean installation. I tried also a new (testing) account, but after login (in the testing account) the problem unfortunately persists.

Hello,

I do not know why, but I'm getting error when updating:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
....
W: Failed to fetch http://packages.solydxk.com/production/dists/solydxk/InRelease Unable to find expected entry 'community/binary-i386/Packages' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
Is something wrong with this community repo? And, how to fix this?

Please check that your sources.list file is correct: http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1529

Hello Philipp,
Have you solved your problem? With the current 2.2.1 version I hope it is. Please let us know.
They did not know it was impossible so they did it.

Hey ane champenois!

Thank you for your response. No, I couldn't solve the problem with the updatemanager. The status is still the same: If I try to access the updatemanger via the icon in the XFCE-toolbar no window showing the updatemanager will apear. Also if I rightclick on the icon and select preferences nothing happens, only if I choose quit the uploadmanager is 'killed'.

Bye!

Should I open a new tread:
twice, in "current
I have just experienced 2 problems with the UM in SolydK 64. One machine gave me 2.3.8 twice, in current version and newer version an expected me to click in install. Another machine opened this list:
upman.png
Is it just a matter of closing it all and run it again? It worked in the first machine, when, in the second run, offered me to install UM 2.4.0

Guys, again, UpdateManager freezes, stops and stays there, in the middle of the upgrade (now when installing UM 2.4.5).

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo dpkg --configure -a
until you got new update manager I'd suggest to not use it. you can replace update manager with this command

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -d dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Rebooting (violently) the PC and running UpMan all over again worked... go figure. But it is not the first time it happens (the freezing) :?
