Could not resolve 'packages.solydxk.nl' [SOLVED]

Postby Karl » 22 Sep 2013 02:04

During updating my system an error message popped-up:

Could not resolve 'packages.solydxk.nl'

I am not behind a proxy and haven't initiated doing anything to my DNS settings. But I do recall that during initial installation of SolydK64 (dual boot WinXP) a dialog box/window (not sure about correct terminology) popped-up something about "inet" settings (again, I am not certain about "inet" but it definitely was something relating to "net") - as to whether or not to keep existing settings - Yes or No - it also displayed the difference between these settings (which I didn't quite understand). I clicked the 'Yes' option. Maybe this action was wrong and should've kept the existing setting by clicking 'No'. If so, can this be reversed?

I kindly request assistance resolving 'packages.solydxk.nl'

PLEASE, use the tags code, with button Code over edition window. ok?

Code: Select all

su
cat /etc/resolv.conf

Hey kyodev,
Thanks again for responding.
I've got the results but...
kyodev wrote: PLEASE, use the tags code, with button Code over edition window. ok?
I am unsure about your request. Do you want me to add "code" at the beginning and "/code" at the end of my terminal output results like this?

Code: Select all

su
cat /etc/resolv.conf
ifconfig
route
ping -c1 google.com
ping -c1 solydxk.com
ping -c1 packages.solydxk.com
traceroute packages.solydxk.com

oh yes, it's better nice, but I want also that you copy each command and paste it in terminal console. and, copy us the result, between tag code.

I suggest nothing, I search, for now, I think that the problem is not at your home, but at your Fai.
can you install (not return the results):

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install dnsutils
and after return the resuts of:

Code: Select all

dig 110.164.252.222 packages.solydxk.com A
dig 110.164.252.223 packages.solydxk.com A

Sorry, no luck with installing 'dnsutils'.

Code: Select all

karl@solydk64 ~ $ sudo apt-get install dnsutils

Package dnsutils is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  bind9-host
E: Package 'dnsutils' has no installation candidate

I'm stupid ..!

I dont understand why you can ping and why you can't traceroute packages.solydxk.nl.
perhaps you can test:

Code: Select all

su
echo '67.205.26.168 packages.solydxk.com' >> /etc/hosts
# and try
apt-get update
if you read more "Could not resolve packages.solydxk.nl" it's not good, but now, I have no longer ideas...perhaps others?
if it's good, retry install dnsutils and return the digs, I'm curious

@kyodev
According to my Network Connection (wired connection) ==> IPv4 Address tab, the 'Method' is set to 'Automatic (DHCP).

So I Googled and found that somebody has had problems with 'Broken Packages' and rectified this by setting the method to "Automatic (DHCP) addresses only".
Then input "208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220" into the DNS servers box

If this won't have a negative impact to my system I could try this if you think that this course of action is safe to do so in terms of network security etc.. What do you think?

except if you have a specific network configuration, I can just imagine a problem with you dns. actually 110.164.252.222 / 110.164.252.223.

I suggest you delete the added line in hosts:

Code: Select all

sudo kate /etc/hosts
and del the line: 67.205.26.168 packages.solydxk.nl

yes you can test other dns with opendns
or other opendns 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
or googledns 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

you can also as last try, to change your sources.list

Code: Select all

cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.bak
sudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list
and copy/paste this mirrors:

Code: Select all

Well, I downed a couple of Margaritas, grabbed the bull by its horns and edited my DNS settings to "Automatic (DHCP) addresses only" and added "208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220" into the DNS servers box.

In Update Manager all Repository Mirrors (USA, AUS, NLD and USA-NC are now on-line and my mirror is pointing to USA Debian/SolydXK.

I then checked mirror's speed:
USA 77Kb/s - 94Kb/s repectively
AUS 98Kb/s - 316Kb/s respectively
NLD 29Kb/s - 214Kb/s respectively and
USA-NC 43Kb/s

Based on these results I changed my mirror from USA/USA to AUS/AUS.
My system appears to be up to date and is pointing to the "SolydXK peoduction" repository'
Current Update Pack available: None
Latest UpdatePack used by this system: 2013.08.06

It seems the change of DNS settings fixed up the problem I was having and all is now okay.
Many thanks for your patience and assistance.

I advise you to re-choose the Usa or Nld mirrors. Internode Aus seems not perfect:
http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php? ... ode#p14921
http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php? ... ode#p14517

if you will, just for my curiosity:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install dnsutils
and after return the resuts of:

Code: Select all

dig 110.164.252.222 packages.solydxk.com A
dig 110.164.252.223 packages.solydxk.com A
if all is ok,you coujd tag [solved] in subject of your first post.

Yeah, I am back on the NLD mirrors and had to revert to "Automatic (DHCP)" because "208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220" did not connect me to the net anymore after rebooting the system. Anyway, I finally was able to install dnutils...

yes, you have always an error to join *.solydxk.nl. you, or rather Fai's dns. perhaps, in fews days, you will not have this (dns propagation? it already seems that you don't have error for packages.solydxk.nl) .

I'm stupid, I forgot @ in commands: can you retry:

Code: Select all

dig @110.164.252.222 community.solydxk.com A
dig @110.164.252.223 community.solydxk.com A
because "208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220" did not connect me to the net anymore after rebooting the system
perhaps you can try with googledns:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

Yes, the error messages are getting less.

Because of my recent experience I am reluctant playing around with the DNS settings and am quite cool waiting till things sort out themself.
