"Domain thing" is the .local on your hostname for router resolution (hostname.local). It's pretty standard. You'd need to look at either the router docs or your tech support guy should be able to help.

Personally I believe that NFS and Samba are not secure. Samba may be necessary if you did have Winduhs machines, but NFS just hanging its ports out there in front of everybody, is not secure even on your LAN.

Please consider an all SSH solution with sshfs.

I wish there was a Solyd wiki where I could write an article.
