[SOLVED] Samba - blind and hided computer

Postby bostaurus » 16 Jun 2014 10:23

Hello,
I’m not able to install a shared directory (Freigabe).
If I do it with Dolphin, it is forgotten in the moment I click ok. If I do it with Dolphin as Root, it is the same.
If I take GADMIN-Samba, then there will be a change in the file /etc/samba/smb.conf, but there are no consequences. In Dolphin there is no smb://workgroup. I installed a FritzBox.NAS, that is seen by all my other computers, but not from that special one I’m wrting about. Also the computer cannot be seen by others. It is not possible to reach them with other computers. The computer is blind and hided. The normal internet is working (firefox and thunderbird); my sources are Solydk Testing; the firewall is inactive.
Since three days I’m trying to change these unsatisfying state without any success.

So I ask for any idea to solve.

Have you tried the sambashare application that Schoelje has written and provided? If it's not part of the standard install, it's in the repos.

I assume that I did not use it. Would you please say me what the name of the package is?

... three hours later: Is what you see in the picture that you are talking about?

I think, I solved the problem. What I did:
1st I took some informations from this website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dm0_9N3dY90
2nd I wrote a simple version of an own smb.conf

Code: Select all

[global]
	workgroup = WORKGROUP
	netbios name = cXY-solydk-AB
	security = user
	encrypt passwords = yes
	guest account = nobody
	name resolve order = bcast host

[data]
	path = /media/name-of-directory
	writeable = yes
;	browseable = yes
	valid users = username
With this text it works.

^ This is a "straight forward" HOWTO (as I give myself a shameless plug).

There are no distro or network dependencies in it.

Hallo Hinto, I'm not an english natural speaker. So I don't know, is it ironical? Is it dangerous, what I did? Is it too simple?
What I do not understand are the first four lines of your script. What is the sense of them? Which effort will they have?
