Nas, Cifs, Linux and windows

Postby xendistar » 20 Jul 2014 21:20

I have a 500gb Nas on my network which I previously had shared on my previous xubuntu install via the following line fstab

//homenas/openshare/data /media/share cifs credentials=/root/.smb,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 0 0

I have copied the same line over into the fstab file on my solydx install, I have made a new .smb file with the correct crodential which I puut in the root folder but when I run sudo mount -a I get the following error;

WARNING: 'dir_mode' not expressed in octal.
mount error: cifs filesystem not supported by the system
mount error(19): No such device
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

I dont have clue what the first line means, my under standing is 0777 is octal?

The second line, does it mean that cifs has been discontinuesd?? I could only find cifs-utils in the repositories which is installed?

Any advice please
