Question about Huawei E173s 3G broadband stick

There are a lot of updates in UP2013-05-06, including kde-plasma-desktop and Linux kernel 3.2.41-2.
Do I have to let the updates install all together, or is it OK to install them one at a time or even in arbitrary groups?

My Huawei E173s 3G broadband stick worked in LM13KDE64 but stopped working when I tried LM14KDE64.

I'm expecting to see the same problem here soon and am curious to discover which update may be causing the problem. I guess it will be either in the Linux kernel or KDE desktop so I'd like to try those separately.

In your case, I'd recommend to install and test the packages individually, but I stretch to say that you don't upgrade on your production system.

====
first a general consideration:
- it's not a good idea to cherry-pick updates (this won't be a very complex update-pack, so the issue is not so serious but in very complex UP it can be catastrophic)
- the sum of several partial updates is not equal to a full dist-upgrade (there's replaces and removals that need to be done in due time)

re: the issue at hand
- there was a change in the way this modem is handled between precise/mint13 and quantal/mint14 and as far as i can see the issue goes back to the network-manager stack
- there's one workaround (for the ubuntu editions) here >> http://hanynowsky.wordpress.com/2012/10 ... 0-quantal/
- most probably neither linux nor kde itself have nothing to do with supporting or not this modem;

but of course if you can test these changes in advance before applying them to your production system much better 8-)

Sounds like I need to watch out for updates in network manager.
Thanks.
