I changed this line in the OP:
(basically there's 3 words changing: replace production with testing on the second and third line and add testing to the end of the first line. Leave all the rest as-is).
to:
In fact, you only need to replace "production" with "testing".

FYI - I've tested updating the new repositories, and I think I've got it right now. So, in a few days I'll start the final synchronization for testing.
Remember that the the packages testing repository needs to change in the sources.list file (see the OP).

Changed to testing sources.list.

What do I need to do to get over this hump?

Code: Select all

richard@h61h2solx:~$ git clone https://github.com/SolydXK/
Cloning into 'SolydXK'...
fatal: repository 'https://github.com/SolydXK/' not found
richard@h61h2solx:~$
I know there's something I'm not doing but it's been awhile.

which repository are you trying to clone?
that is the generic address

for example

Code: Select all

zerozero@home ~ $ git clone https://github.com/SolydXK/solydxk-conky.git
Cloning into 'solydxk-conky'...
remote: Counting objects: 148, done.
remote: Compressing objects: 100% (86/86), done.
remote: Total 148 (delta 46), reused 133 (delta 31)
Receiving objects: 100% (148/148), 80.06 KiB | 119.00 KiB/s, done.
Resolving deltas: 100% (46/46), done.
Checking connectivity... done
zerozero@home ~ $ ls -lA | grep conky
-rw-r--r-- 1 zerozero zerozero 1882 Jul 6 02:48 .conky-log
-rw-r--r-- 1 zerozero zerozero 2646 Jul 31 19:38 conkyrc
-rwxr-xr-x 1 zerozero zerozero 32 Jul 31 18:52 conky-start

You're trying to clone our Github organization
You need to select one of the repositories (applications) on that page (https://github.com/SolydXK).

For example, we'll take usermanager: https://github.com/SolydXK/usermanager
On the right panel, at the bottom, you see "SSH clone URL".
Copy that line by clicking on the "copy to clipboard" button:

Code: Select all

git@github.com:SolydXK/usermanager.git
Now, open the terminal, and run these commands:

Code: Select all

mkdir development
cd development
git clone git@github.com:SolydXK/usermanager.git
When done you'll have a sub-directory called usermanager with all the source from our Github repository.

I use Ninja-IDE for the code, and Glade to build the GUI.
Whenever you want to submit your changes, you need to make a new branch. When that time comes, let me know.

[EDIT]
zz has beaten me to it!

OK. Understand.

On my fresh install of SolydX32-201309 without Plymouth,
I did the update to 1006 then rebooted without problem (except for my login).

Feeling confident, I set the sources.list to "testing" did a d-u and all seemed well.
Ran the lightdm and set login to hide cursor. Then I rebooted...
and waited...
and it stayed stuck right after setting up the USB printer,
with a black screen and the cursor in the upper left...
Even worse, it had broken the MBR and nothing would boot.

Might be that the USB pen drive I used was faulty since when I tried to reinstall,
it only got to "Setting up the keyboard..." and hung. I tried twice.
So, anyway, I was able to close the Installer and start Xfburn to burn a DVD of
SalineOS-2-dev2 with grub-doctor. Booted that and reinstalled grub
onto my SAL2 installation and then rebooted, and run update-grub.

Going to burn a verified ISO of SolydX32-201309 onto a DVD which I expect to install
with no problem. And then I'll get it updated on Production and see what happens.
Then clone it and go step-wise to see what breaks it.

Will advise when I get back to a normal state again.
And again, it may just be something that this clone doesn't like.

Ah, well.
I've burnt two DVD-R coasters --one with K3b and another with Xfburn.
One booted once but the installer wouldn't run; while the other just wouldn't boot.

So, I suppose I'll wait for a new iso in November and see how that goes.

...back from the brink.

After booting into LMLTS, I decided to try the USB again. Why not?

Used the mintstick which seems to be the same or similar to usb-imager.
Wrote the stick, booted, installed as expected, updated, etcetera.

Currently tracking Production.
The login niggle is still there but I gave in to autologin so I don't have to wonder.

...and now on to Testing.
