Please excuse this naive question but why doesn't Cinnamon work properly in Solyd series if it works so well in LMDE since they are both Debian based? I am presuming it is because the LMDE team tweaks and refines its implementation but I was just curious as I would love SolydC to be a reality.
the other possible explanation is that LMDE has their own 'debian adjustment' created by mint devs. cinnamon might need 1 or 2 adjustment to make it work on a pure debian testing.

cinnamon is now (since august, 30th) in jessie
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/cinnamon
directly from the debian repos and not using the hack proposed in the OP
bliss of ignorance

Cinnamon is eye candy but I am beginning to stop loving it: I must admit it tends to attract bugs or incompatibilities
with "other" applications or packages, not easy to assess or troubleshoot. I won't expect a lasting / stable personalized
desktop configuration; it will likely break at some future update of a [generic] linux distribution.

For example, I added to Ubuntu and it broke upon updating Ubuntu at some point. In other case (linux mint with
"built in" cinnamon) something went wrong 2 weeks ago (all gray window frames); I hardly managed to find out incompatibilities with some gnome - themes.

Long story short: just an opinion but Cinnamon is good for playing and experimenting, not for a "solyd" / stable value.
Adding to SolydXK family is kind of moving in the "opposite" direction.

Hehehe,
