HOW TO: SolydK Japanese Language Support and IME

Installing Japanese Language Support and Input Method (IME) for SolydK 64 Version 20130709


1. install Japanese(ja) localization files for KDE

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install kde-l10n-ja
2. Settings > System Settings > Locale > Languages
i. Click on the [=>] Button to move your choice of languages from the "Available Languages" to the "Preferred Languages" Field

3. Install IME and Japanese input support packages
3a.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install ibus
3b.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install ibus-anthy
3c.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install mecab
4.Settings > Ibus Preferences:
i. Click the [Yes] Button to start ibus daemon on Dialog Box
ii. Click the [OK] Button

5.Ibus Preferences Tab settings

5a. General Tab Settings
i. Leave as default or Tick "Show input method name on language bar" Checkbox

5b. Input Method Tab Settings
i. Tick "Customize active input methods" Checkbox to make the "Select an input method" Dropdown box active.
ii. Click on the ">" next to the greyed out "Japanese" to select Japanese-Anthy
Alternatively press the "down arrow" key to select Japanese-Anthy.
iii. Click [+Add] button

5c. Advanced Tab Settings
i. Tick both Checkboxes

6. Settings > Input Method Switcher
i. Click "Use IBus (ibus) Radio Button under the "User" column
ii. Click [OK] Button
iii. Click [OK] Button on the Information Dialog Box

7. Logout and Log back in or reboot

8. Test using kate, firefox or bash shell.
Use <CTRL> + Space to switch between languages as defined in:
Settings > Ibus Preferences > General Tab
