printer icon in panel (SolydX): fix or remove?

Postby BillZM » 02 Jul 2014 22:17

Running SolydX, I have Brother's MFC-7820N printer/scanner working well in network mode using Brother-provided debian drivers.

A minor annoyance is the printer icon (pic of printer with small settings gear) which appears in the panel notification area when I print a job. It remains during the entire session, regardless of job and printer status (which is reported back correctly in Printer Settings and Print Queue). Neither left-clicking or right-clicking is recognized by the icon, and it just stays there.

Suspending the session and starting up again will make the icon disappear but leave the hole where the icon was.

Shutting down and rebooting removes the icon completely.

It's a minor annoyance, but I wondered if others had seen this behavior and solved this. Any ideas? I'd like to either make the icon functional or make it go away.

Here is my system info.
