Re: UP 2014.10.15
Running apt-get -f install returns:
0 upgraded 0 newly installed 0 to remove and 1257 not upgraded
presumably this means a rerun is required.

Yes, just run

This will give a more verbose output.
Code: Select all

Re: UP 2014.10.15
Thanks for the advice to check my sources.list -- I see I have inconsistent settings.
On a few of my machines they are:
deb http://packages.solydxk.nl/production/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext
deb http://debian.solydxk.nl/production testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.nl/production/multimedia testing main non-free
deb http://debian.solydxk.nl/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://community.solydxk.nl/production/ solydxk main
on others (where vlc is not working) I have no kdenext listing:

deb http://debian.solydxk.nl/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://community.solydxk.nl/production/ solydxk main
Could you let me know what these should read?
Thanks!
EDIT: After reading back about the removal of the kdenext and the solydfixes.php my heart is sinking (maybe I am out of sync with package numbers and needing to downgrade) and this may be beyond my ability to fix. I presume that my computers that still have dolphin are probably pointing to kdenext and that's not good. Am I better off waiting for new isos and reinstalling?

Re: UP 2014.10.15
The first was done in the SolydX 32 netbook and installed a lot of things (I post that later, from home).Schoelje wrote: @Gonzalo_VC
But what was the output of:What is the output of:Code: Select all
apt-get -f install
If the first shows nothing and the second does, you need to re-initialize the cache:Code: Select all
apt-show-versions | grep upgradeable
Code: Select all
apt-show-versions -i
Here at work, one of my (4) SolydK 64 gave nothing in the -f install but this:
Code: Select all
dolphin:amd64/testing 4:4.12.4-1 upgradeable to 4:4.14.1-1
ffmpeg:amd64/testing 10:2.2.4-dmo1 upgradeable to 10:2.4.1-dmo1
libstreamanalyzer0:amd64/testing 0.7.8-1.2 upgradeable to 0.7.8-1.2+b2
libstreams0:amd64/testing 0.7.8-1.2 upgradeable to 0.7.8-1.2+b2
A recurrent problem is with the icon that always show those arrows saying there are upgradable packages available, as shown in my previous post. But UpMan says "Your system is up to date", yet.
apt-get upgrade -fix-missing gives me:
Code: Select all
The following packages have been kept back:
dolphin ffmpeg libstreamanalyzer0 libstreams0

Re: UP 2014.10.15
There you have it.
apt (the main UM window) handles held back packages differently than apt-show-versions (the tray icon).
Try to find out why they were held back by reinstalling them.
Note that ffmpeg will need the multimedia repository listed in your sources.list

Re: UP 2014.10.15
Hello, (-- I'm running SolydX)
Since I upgraded using the Update Manager this morning, I met several problems with my system, which used to run perfectly fine before that...
First, Thunderbird went totally South: it opened, but the main window remained desperatly empty. Nothing on screen. It froze the system and so, I had to reboot everytime I opened TB. I finally decided to reinstall TB from scratch and doing so, I lost some folders(!!!). Now, it seems to function again, but there was a cost to it!
Second, I lost printing capabilities. No more CUPS, no more network printer, no more scanner. I tried to reinstall the printer drivers, including the CUPS driver, but some files could not be found during the installation process and I am now left without any printer, scanner or anything... Don't know how to fix this.
Third, I lost volume functions... The icon is gone from the taskbar. Audiomixer won't open anymore, and so it is with PuseAudio Volume Control.
I guess some other surprises will come up while using the computer.
Is there way I can reset the system to what it used to be before that upgrade??
So, if someone could help, I would greatly appreciate. Thanks,
Matt

Is there a manual way to solve this in the terminal? Should I purge (again) all media-players and re-install them (VLC and Amarok)?
In some machines I got a loop and the UpMan say there are new packages, downloads and install them, but never gets satisfied. Is it the cache or what!? Some other machines have the "V" (OK) sign in the UpMan (lucky me!). The differences in packages are minimum among machines (some have the r-cran packages, some not, the rest is almost the same... mysterious hardware behavior!).

I know you are a busy man, but did you by chance have any insight into the output of what I posted for the items you requested in my previous post?
http://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php ... =60#p45949
I cleaned up my repos a bit, I removed the seemingly dead "community" repo and the duplicate google repo. Still not sure what to make of this situation, as the repos weren't the issue.
Edit: So, I fixed it. I was reading back through all the recent problems and solutions, and it was solved iwth the /var/tmp /tmp issue. I only realized this because as I was booting up this last time, I watched the task manager, and saw that in the task tree that contained PulseAudio, PulseAudio was the last thing on the list until the brightness bar went away, and then the tree expanded with many other processes, and it clicked. I checked the symlink and sure enough it was linked to /var/tmp, so I removed it, created /tmp, rebooted, and all is well again.

Ok. User error as usual. That is the exact command readout. Thanks for the catch zz.
I Will proceed with the upgrade. I just thought maybe a package was pulled. Kinda over thinking it. I try and read
all instructions 1st before pulling any triggers.
Nope. I must be in a bad spot of the universe tonight I guess. Will wait and see. Exact readout.
Should there be a space between ":" and "//" maybe? 'll check and see.

Now the only thing I've found amiss is that system sounds suddenly don't work; it makes a nasty crackly noise and says the device isn't working - yet audio and video media are playing correctly. I've tried setting the system to use a different device (in system settings > multimedia), but same result. Weird eh?
System seems to be working fine otherwise though.
