PolicyKit1-KDE alert for Folder Watch Limit

Postby jprj » 27 Jun 2015 07:32

Everytime I start up, after a short while I get a dialog box from PolicyKit1 saying:
PolicyKit1-KDE

An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges. Authentication is required to perform this action.

Password:

Application:
Action: Folder Watch Limit
'Application' is empty and 'Folder Watch Limit' appears to be a html link, but does nothing when clicked.

To date, all I have done is click 'Cancel' and get on with life. Today I decided to investigate. Here is what I found.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions ... 175505756/ talks about this in the context of Slackware. I tried setting max_user_watches to 20480: all that did was delay the message by a minute or so.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=734134 attributes the problem to nepomuk and suggests turning off desktop search.

https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/106748/ talks about the problem and its proper solution. I'm not going to pretend to understand half of it.

Anyway, my solution has been to turn off desktop search (since I don't remember ever using it) and the problem has gone away. But it would be interesting to have a proper solution rather than just treating the symptoms.
