It's not about their programming skills. It's about their attitude to properly documenting what they change. Because they don't.
When I needed to figure out what to change to move the ISOs from KDE 4 to 5, I was more than a little annoyed that all the docs in their 'Techbase wiki' still described the old setup. Even pages marked 'Plasma 5' had only references to file locations that simply weren't valid for Plasma 5. It took me ages to scrape the necessary info from all over the place - everywhere except the 'official' KDE docs. This is no fun if the subject you're dealing with basically doesn't interest you in the slightest.
Today I read in some report of a KDE developer meeting held around the end of March 2016, that they finally
realised they had to do something about their docs and they were actually going to do so. So I went to the pages I looked at before and they still had the same errors. Not surprising, as most of them were last updated early March 2016 or before.
So what broke the ISOs? I haven't got a clue and no official documentation to read to figure it out. And quite frankly, I have better things to do with my time.
