Gimp 2.10.0?

Postby Redraw » 24 Oct 2018 07:47

Hello
Just wondering - When will the new iso available , are we looking around end of 2018 or thereabouts
will the Gimp 2.10.06 ? not sure about the last number but will the Gimp be in the updated iso for Solyd K or software centre usually isn't
asking because it seems most Gimp forums now have enough feedback to fix most issues and I rather wait until later in year to get a new computer until then so as to have all new running gear - computer, Solyd K distro, Gimp
Thanks in advance

A new Gimp version will be included in the EE image, but not in the regular images. SolydXK follows debian stable and "stable" means that the software stays the same during the 2-year-period until the next stable version (about summer 2019). Only security updates will be supplied, obviously.

But a newer Gimp version might be available to you in the backports repo.

If you are a little skilled with your pc, maybe this will help you:

https://backports.debian.org/Instructions/

Remember: SolidXK 9 is fully compatible to Debian 9 (stretch) :-)

You might also want to consider/read up on Flatpak. While I wouldn't want to use it extensively (but hey, that's just me), for this type of situation it may be a good fit.

You could run the latest version of GIMP via Flatpak until it eventually hits Debian.

Flatpak is in the repos.

Re: Gimp 2.10.0? in Solyd (( Solved

Postby Redraw » 25 Oct 2018 15:07

Thanks Arjen yeah found them earlier , remembered seeing that when I was ha um adjusting everything about 6 to 12 months ago and used to have problems
All these are good suggestions and thanks to all of you for the advice
I think waiting for the new Solyd K buster ( mid 2019 approx ) + gimp 2.10 is a safer option because the xcf files in gimp dont look that they backward compatible with 2.8
I do want to finish off the selection of Wallpapers for the community here ( hope you all like a bit of a dark theme yes getting too many choices some are uh ok others wow ho ho ) many aha moments ( Artists Happy Accidents )
before gimp 2.10
I would rather keep working on the wallpapers and have them done before Christmas / New Year than have to muck about with anything that makes my Linux Box unstable and delays the wallpapers it has taken a long time to get this far

thats why I wont shift from Solyd K .
the new computer can wait awhile longer .

And how do I install from backports then? With apt install -t stretch-backports? Any other way?

I went looked at backports it seems they have instability that affects systems
so looked at flatpaks ok that sent me to backports
can't be all bad i'm thinkin
went to synaptics and got a bunch of stuff for backports
downloaded fine went offline and shutdown - meal time
on restart got error messages could not got into solyd k
tried different things that worked in the past nothing worked out
so much for getting gimp 2.10 ok
had a break to think this out decided load a live cd and on we go
not solyd k but debian that's slow on updating software
looked at other distros with yes gimp 2.10.06
since I was so close to get new machine eh ordered up what i want and should be ready in two weeks approx
no sense in re-installing solyd k on old machine might as well wait and install solyd k on the new machine
also will have multi-boot for the first time in a very very long time
found two maybe three other distros that might do the work maybe
already found some things they dont have and solyd k does out of the box
bluetooth and wifi and printer and some other stuff that solyd k works
the other distros have long process to get set up and some still don't work properly
and the wallpapers well time away and got another great idea today looking forward to sharing them with you all
untill the new machine is set up and working will Not be visiting forum sorry got other things to do
See ya
