Dual-Boot Solydx vs windows 10

Postby jsvenancio » 09 Feb 2019 16:46

PT;
Boa tarde.

ENG;
Good afternoon.
I hereby come to ask for help for a problem I am going through.

I have my laptop with Dual-Boot between Solydx and windows 8.1. In the last big update that I made in windows 8.1 I started to have the version "windows 8.1 Pro N" being that my license is not for this version, I have the PC to stop at any moment to request a new activation key. It is irritant.

I was advised to upgrade to windows 10. But I was left doubting whether the Dual-Boot between "Solydx and windows 10" will work.

Any suggestion?

English
Hello,
Probably if you install (update) Windows 10 will need to install SOLYDX again.
But perhaps a more experienced friend can bring another solution.

Reinstalling GRUB should be enough, unless Windows 10 messes up big time and overwrites partitions it shouldn't touch.
You will need a CD ROM or USB stick with a live system though, preferably with the same version of GRUB as you have installed on your laptop.

I'll update this post with reinstallatiion instructions later. I need to check the procedure first (last time I looked one of the command line options I used to use was no longer supported).

Edit
Does that laptop run a UEFI (not in compatibility mode) or a BIOS?

Hi,

may be it would be good idea to try out Boot Repair Disk.

It is not under active development, but I have used
it successfully several times
https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/

good luck

Good night. My laptop uses UEFI, but at the moment I have UEFI disabled to be able to use Dual-Boot between windows 8.1 and SolydX (64 bts).

Good night. Yes, I already know the Boot Repair Disk. I've used it on other occasions.

If the update happened without your interference that problem needs to be solved by Microsoft. They can't update your system to something else without granting a license. They can't just upgrade your system without granting a corresponding license. Have you contacted Microsoft support?

Unfortunately I had not thought about contacting Microsoft support. But I will contact Microsoft and expect an answer.
