upgrading from unofficial LMDE KDE UP6

Postby gandalf » 03 Mar 2013 16:40

I've followed instructions here: http://solydxk.nl/community/tutorials/#lmdekde

upgrade worked fine, I needed a massive dist upgrade and I was happy for DDM detection and installation Nvidia drivers (nvidia-glx), installation and upgrading worked before with 800X600 resolution;

my system (assembled yesterday):
MB: Asus p8h77-m (onboard audio device Realtek ALC887);
CPU: Intel i5-3470 3.20 GHz;
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 2X4GB;
HD: WD Caviar Blue 500 GB SATA-3 (WD5000AAKX) (in few days I'll install on SSD Crucial m4 128 GB 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s);
DVD: LG 16X blue ray/DVD writer;
GPU: (Palit) GeForce GTX 650 (1024MB GDDR5);
MONITOR: Asus VE247H (23.6 inches, 1920X1080);

now everything seems working fine;

in LMDE KDE UP6 DDM and audio configuration didn't work;
I'm continuing to test...

There seem to be a few threads where sound isn't working, some with different results... here's another one: http://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=109

Good to hear, and you haven't done anything special to accomplish that?

just nothing, everything works fine on my system!
On LMDE KDE UP6 this was really a problem, it was necessary to configure sound system, this using alsamixer after a long Google search; I had the same problem with another pc with the same sound device on Asus F2A85-M LE (cpu AMD a10-5700);
I think to migrate from LMDE KDE UP6 to SolydXK also there;

I'm glad the magic worked :lol: . It's interesting because there have been a number of threads here about sound problems recently.

my previous MB had this card and i never :twisted: never had sound working until i added
options snd-hda-intel model=generic to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
the magic in SolydXK :lol: was Schoelje's "fault"

I'm curious: does

Code: Select all

options snd-hda-intel model=auto
also work?

with this card

Code: Select all

zerozero@solydk ~ $ inxi -Ax
Audio: Card: Intel 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller
           driver: snd_hda_intel bus-ID: 00:1b.0
           Sound: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture ver: k3.7.0-9.dmz.2-liquorix-amd64
generic or auto both work
bliss of ignorance

I'd like to see the auto option tested on everybody with a sound card issue.
If that is a quick fix, I love it! 8-)

my experience:
in etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf on SolydXK there is the line "options snd-hda-intel model=generic", in LMDE KDE it wasn't and I had to add it manually and then configure alsamixer, I believe that this is the magic but why I dont know...
I'm testing with "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" and it works too!
