[SOLVED] "Toc" from speakers

Postby palimmo » 13 Jul 2014 08:13

this is useful!
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/381201

Code: Select all

I found that setting the Module-options

power_save=0
and
power_save_controller=N

in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

get's overwritten in Natty in the file:

/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/intel-audio-powersave

I changed the line

INTEL_AUDIO_POWERSAVE=${INTEL_AUDIO_POWERSAVE:-true}
to
INTEL_AUDIO_POWERSAVE=false

Now Natty keeps the hda_intel adapter power_save settings as desired

Fix still needed in SolydK10.
I had to combine the 2 tricks from comment #50 and #65
/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/intel-audio-powersave

I changed the line

INTEL_AUDIO_POWERSAVE=${INTEL_AUDIO_POWERSAVE:-true}
to
INTEL_AUDIO_POWERSAVE=false
into /etc/pulse/default.pa, found the following line:

load-module module-suspend-on-idle

and commented it out. I then restarted Pulseaudio (killall -9 pulseaudio, and let it respawn)

I have uploaded a new solydxk-system package to testing that fixes this issue:
https://repository.solydxk.com/pool/tes ... xk-system/

I understand that this issue affects some specific intel chip users. Will this fix affect other users?

If I'm not mistaken, it will switch off power saving for all Intel audio devices. I don't have any issues with that myself, but should we? What about comment 55 in that bugs.launchpad thread?

this "toc" issue would be very spesific. it would happened mostly on speakers run on unregulated power supply or a very specific amp IC. it will happened regardless the audio chip. it's just unfortunate that most of system has intel audio chip. since it's a hardware issue, IMO it should be left as it is and let user fix it by himself. there's a good reason why ubuntu people decided to give it "won't fix" status.

Agreed, we could cause more damage with this workaround for other users.
I will not implement the workaround in solydxk-system.
