You can configure them with the network manager. Select the one (or ones if you have different networks) you want to use at a given moment.
This likely means that your installation is broken. -Mr Pixbuf.

I think the system defaults to using the wired connection if one is available - at least that's been my experience with my laptop. Maybe bacause there's an assumption that the wire will be faster than the WiFi? In my home, the bottleneck is with the ISP so it really doesn't matter for me.

My laptop will use wired over WiFi as well. I think it's because it is a direct connection instead of wireless radio which could be cut off due to not being near the router/modem/hotspot, etc. At least that's my theory.
