Error installing update to kernel...

Postby SARocks » 10 Jan 2016 17:26

I am hoping that some has seen this and has the solution.
I get the following error message from Update Manager 2.8.7:

Code: Select all

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be upgraded:
  linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0 B/33.8 MB of archives.
After this operation, 1,024 B of additional disk space will be used.

It looks like the error starts with this:
unable to make backup link of `./boot/System.map-3.16.0-4-amd64' before installing new version: Operation not permitted
So, it must be related to the initial . at the beginning of the string...

Where is the script located so I can remove the . ?

Running apt dist-upgrade and using Synaptic give the exact same error.
I tried running apt dist-upgrade while logged in as root and it did the same.

Stumped in San Antonio...
