How to install skype relaese

Postby newuser » 05 Aug 2018 21:49

I 'm new to solydx and appreciate the system you created. The installation was smooth without any problems. But unfortunately I need skype and up to now I could not make it run fully and without problems. I have another system with Lubuntu and there the installation was no problem and it runs without any incidents. But the new version of skype obviously does not fit in to the SolidX system without additional adjustments. One reason seams to be, that MS made an arrangement with ubuntu to use snap as the basis of the new skype configuration for Linux. Therefore I installed snapd via synaptic. But the mikro and the speaker still did not function. Finally I installed chromium and now the mikro and the speaker work from time to time and I could make telephone calls via skype. I have the impression as if snapd alone was not sufficient an unknown part of chromium was needed additionally. But the installation is not stable, from time to time skype shows the message, that I should restart my system to make the mikro and the speaker work. After a restart skype works till the next message of this kind appears. But one basic fault still persists, I still can not use the real skype function of communication because under the skype communication system the speaker does not work.
Is there anyone in this community who uses the newest skype release and has managed the installation satisfactorily and can give my a hint how to solve the problem?

I typically install Skype like this:

Code: Select all

sudo -i
apt-get -y install apt-transport-https
echo "deb [arch=amd64] stable main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
curl | sudo apt-key add -
apt-get update
apt-get -y install skypeforlinux
To try to reproduce your issue, I followed the steps above in a Live running solydx_9_64_201801.iso on VB.
This installs: skypeforlinux/stable,now amd64.
Speaker output appears to function properly (sort of, but that's because of VB;-)!

What procedure did you follow to install Skype?
Have you selected the correct speaker output device in the Skype settings?

You should not need any additional components: Skype is fully supported directly on Debian: ... -for-skype
